Musings

by Morning Song

Human beings
small and pliable
that's what we
really are

Being able
to change
with the times,
and with new knowledge,
we acquire

At times the knowledge
enables us all
to leap forward
with boundless grace

There's also the information
that we should contemplate,
mull around in our mind,
before we state our case

The Heaven's alone
know all there is to know
And we frail humans
try to seize it all

But we should stop
and ask ourselves
if we really want
to know

What would we do
with limitless knowledge
And the power it equals?

Would the goodness
in our spirit
override the impulses
for conquest of lesser beings?

Or would we instead
lend a helping hand
to a neighbor or a friend?

To help him along
in his own path
and not to ours -
would we try to bend him?

When do we stop
and ask ourselves,
if we try to help
will it make it worse?

As much as it pains us
to stand aside
and let our neighbor
hurt himself,
perhaps we should
so that he may know
what it means to learn.

We may want
what is best
for him

But this we need to know,
to let him live his own life
and together we will grow.
